Our Story

“There has to be more to life than this.”

God drew Greg and Cheryl Leathers closer to him as they each grappled with that statement. Each followed a different path in their youth, but both found meaning and purpose for their life in a relationship with God. After meeting at church God drew them together and each faithfully served in their professions as they raised a family.

But in 2012, God called them to something more.

Our mission is to share Jesus by being his hands and feet wherever God leads. What began as a calling in 2012 to lead a mission trip to Honduras has grown into a full-time ministry for Greg and Cheryl Leathers. Today they are coordinating and leading missions efforts focused on medical ministry, water purification, Bible study, leadership training and more.

IHN believes:

In One God – Father, Son and Holy Spirit – the Creator of all things.

That Jesus Christ is God’s one and only Son, our only Savior, born of a virgin, suffered, died, was buried and bodily rose again. He ascended into Heaven and will come again.

The Holy Spirit indwells every Christian.

The Bible is God’s inspired Holy Word, without error. We accept the Bible as the final authority for all matters of faith and practice.

Through the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ we are offered the gift of salvation. Receiving Christ in faith necessitates response on our part that includes belief, repentance, confession, baptism by immersion and perseverance.

God’s Word is alive and active!
Many pastors in Kikuube and Kamwenge have little or no access to Bibles. God’s Word is a gift that brings hope, truth and light to those living in darkness.

Time shared with the pastors is a privilege and blessing. It is an opportunity to listen, learn and encourage one another.

One elderly pastor shared, “I remember when Idi Amin had all of the Bibles burned in our country. If it were not for God’s word in our hearts and minds the second church would not have started.”

Romans 10:15 "And how can anyone preach unless they are sent? As it is written: “How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news!"

Humbled.....“Thank you for eating my food.”

Every meal that is prepared is an expression of love, willing hearts and compassion. Ministry has no boundaries. It can be under an open sky, cooking over a wood burning fire with large pots simmering.

Their hands prepared the food and what may look like an ordinary cooking day becomes an extraordinary act of service. As one sweet lady said, “Thank you for eating my food.” To that we say, thank you for your hospitality!Thank you to the ladies of Uganda who serve as Christ did! We are grateful!

Farming God’s Way (FGW) in Uganda
Psalm 126:5 “Those who sow with tears will reap with songs of joy.”

Farming is more than planting seeds—it’s an opportunity to trust God, care for His creation and bless the communities. As the farmers of Uganda learn and practice FGW, they sow faith, work with diligence and look to Him for the harvest.

FGW was introduced in two new villages. The farmers were eager and excited to learn and able to participate in hands-on preparation of gardens. We visited previous farmers who are practicing FGW, relying on God’s all sufficiency to provide the soil, the rain and the harvest as they care for their land, steward their resources and work together.

Seeing Clearly, Serving with Love
Psalm 119:18 "Open my eyes that I may see wonderful things in your law."

In August of 2025, IHN took eyeglasses to Uganda but they were confiscated by Customs. After multiple attempts to retrieve them, we learned that the eyeglasses would NOT be returned.

But PRAISE GOD, we took readers with us on this trip and they passed through Customs with no issues! We shared the eyeglasses and the reading of John 3:16 in many languages. One elderly lady shared a comment through our interpreter. “I am unable to read, but I will be able to pick my beans from the garden now.”

Empowering the Village Health Teams (VHTs)

VHTs in Uganda are a group of volunteers chosen by their village to provide basic health care. They are local residents over 18 years who can read, write and understand the local language, many having completed Senior Four education which is equivalent to 9th grade. VHT’s were established by the Uganda Ministry of Health.

IHN, alongside Ugandan physicians, had the opportunity to serve and share knowledge, skills and compassion as an expression of Christ’s love --- promoting health, caring for those in need and bringing hope to every family as they served. They were excited and eager to learn!
